L'anima delle cose - Max De Aloe/Gianni Coscia quartet
L'anima delle cose
The new cd by the Max De Aloe Quartet, "L'anima delle cose", represents the continuity of "Racconti Controvento", issued for Abeat in 2001. "Racconti Controvento" has gained an extraordinary success, awarded for the originality of the project, combining chromatic harmonica and accordion in a rare tune of incredible sound impact, besides the musicians' by now undisputed talents of versatility. In 2001 it was voted amoung the best cds by the Top Referendum Jazz and, most of all, rewarded by the public which has granted the great commercial success. Moreover the band, after exibiting in various contexts and festivals, has anywhere achieved great success. The new cd, "L'anima delle cose", reproposes a stable quartet, a continuity in genre, in sound and in the greatness of the compositions, which have brought to the critics' attention Max De Aloe, as one of the most interesting talents of the new Italian jazz, well supported by a masterly Gianni Coscia, musician by now known all over Europe, thanks also to ECM successes with Gianluigi Trovesi and for his contributions to artists like Berio, Milva or Fabrizio De Andrč. The great surprise of "L'anima delle cose" is anyhow the extraordinary contribution to the project of Giuseppe Conte, one of the most appreciated contemporary Italian poets. His poems have been translated in many languages. In "L'anima delle cose", Giuseppe Conte's contribution consists of four poems, written and recited by himself, extending along a musical suite, where jazz leaves space to the Italian folk-art, to tango. Then come instrumental pieces by the quartet, most of them are written by De Aloe, among them show up "Il bosco che chiamano Respiro", "Voce da orso" and "Il grande Houdini", but also "Wrong Together" by Steve Swallow and "Melodie au Crepuscule" by Django Reinhardt.
