Lucky to be me
AN EVENT DISC. Available only on the Abeat website immediately and officially distributed worlwide starting from the month of September with the exception of Japan that will enjoy an exclusive for some months. We could say that we are in the presence of one of the last great singers who have characterized the epic of African American music. A story, yours, very special: born in 1928, in Detroit, Michigan and immediately stands out for its qualities. He begins to sing and immediately enters the circle of great jazz musicians. Since he worked mainly with musicians of color, he was greatly opposed by the white community, but he was not discouraged and persisted in his career. It was in the late '70s that the public began to understand its uncompromising style, and its popularity grew, as did its participation in various albums, for the main international labels (ECM, Highnote, SteeepleChase, Ble Note ). His collaboration ranges from the great musicians of the past and those of the present (Charlie Parker, George Russel, Steve Khun, Lee Konitz ...). His concerts are always small pearls of elegance, they see the constant presence of many fans who recognize her extraordinary vocality witnessed by an infinite career, full of awards and awards and that continues today with a new record, articulated by a quartet of Italian supermusicians who have supported it for years on its wanderings in the old continent. The title of the album, Lucky to be me, recorded live in Italy in 2016 sounds like a manifesto of a life lived intensely and entirely dedicated to music. "Happy for what it is" marks the return to the recording scene of an interpreter who really left his mark in the history of the African American jazz vocal tradition. The Italian label Abeat is proud to have participated in this high-profile recording.
